Anthony Langrish

Director of Fine Arts
MYP/ DP Music Teacher

Symphonic Wind Band Conductor

I was born and raised in Oxford, England where I started my love of music. I am a third generation musician in my family and studied piano, horn and violin before settling on detailed study of the horn. My greatest influence was the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra which provided me with the focus and lasting friendships I needed to go for further study at the Royal College of Music in London. After this I spent fifteen years as a professional horn player performing in many of Europe’s great venues and becoming the manager of a number of UK based orchestras. My specialisation was opera and music education through performance. In 2001 I decided it was time to get a full time position and when the job of Executive Administrator of the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra was advertised I was happy to take the opportunity to travel. I joined ABA in 2004 and have enjoyed learning ever since. My hobbies are house renovation, travel, cooking and walking.

Facilitator of middle school drama club and Director of middle school productions

I trained as an Actor in London at the well renowned drama school East 15 and then furthered my enthusiasm for pedagogy with a subsequent Post Compulsory Education and Training PGCE. My professional credits include playing 'Reece' in Lee Proud's production of Our House and 'Adam Long' in a UK tour of The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged). I have worked Internationally as a performer and teacher with over seven years experience in teaching Acting and Physical Theatre. I then decided to settle in Oman with my family and diversify my skill set as an International creative practitioner within an IB World School. I recently spent the summer developing my acting for camera skills which I intend to integrate into the curriculum at ABA over the next year.

A dual citizen, I spent my formative years in New Brunswick, Canada and then went to an international school in Hsinchu, Taiwan.  I received a B.Sc and B.Ed from the University of British Columbia.  I then obtained an M.Ed from Framingham University and subsequently an SDEA drama pedagogy certification from the Singapore government.  After teaching subjects that include IB DP Biology, IGCSE Language and Literature and MYP Drama, it has been my dream to focus solely on MYP Drama and English.  In my journey as an international teacher that has brought me much joy, highlights have certainly included many student performances. With a competitive dancesport background, I have years of experience in choreography and physical theatre.

Zita Gange
MYP Music Teacher

MS & HS Choir Conductor

After training as an Actor and Musician at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London I worked professionally in Musical Theatre for over ten years, where I was fortunate to be contracted both Internationally and in London’s West End theatres. I was extremely keen to explore how my contemporary professional skills and industry relevant practice could transfer to education so I went on to train as a teacher in the North East of England in 2008, and have since furthered this with a post graduate certificate in Vocal Pedagogy. I am very passionate about singing and musical development in young children as I believe that many will have their first experience of this within an educational setting. I strive for a learning environment which fosters positive and meaningful opportunities to engage with music for all.

Malena Belston
MYP/ DP Visual Art Teacher

I am Swedish by birth but I was raised in Norway and I spent my university years in Montana, USA.  A tennis scholarship initially guided me to the University of Montana where I quickly discovered that my true interest was in Visual Arts. At the U of M I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting and drawing. A few years later while holding workshops I discovered the joy of teaching, and I worked to obtain a M.Ed in Instruction and Curriculum from Montana State University. Since earning my Masters degree, I have taught in international programs in both Bahrain and Sweden. My international teaching career includes teaching middle school and the IB DP program. I love the educational environment that is created when people from different parts of the world work together and collaborate.

I am a curious person at heart and I love discovering with my students. I find great joy in guiding the students in their artistic journey, to find their strengths and expose their talents.
